On Monday, Donald Trump the front-runner for the Republican Party for the presidential nomination, said a misunderstanding and a lousy earpiece caused him on three occasions to not condemn the former leader of the Ku Klux Klan David Duke while being interviewed on CNN, which has prompted outrage from his presidential candidate rivals.
Trump during an interview Monday morning on the Today Show said he never met Duke a white supremacist, who voiced his backing of Trump on his own radio program and praised the candidate for taking on the Jewish establishment.
Trump on Monday said he is aware who Duke is but never met him. He added that he disavowed Duke a day before.
Trump added that he thought he had been asked by the host of CNN on Sunday about Duke and other groups and he just wanted to know what other groups.
Trump said he was in Florida wearing a poor earpiece and he heard “various groups” asked of him.
He added in Monday that he would fight against the GOP establishment if his party works against him as he leads the race for delegates to secure his party’s nomination.
He said if the party violated its pledge, he would do something that would upset them greatly. The pledge was signed in 2015 by the Republican National Committee and Donald Trump in which Trump agreed not to run as an independent while the Party had agreed to maintain a playing field that remained level.
A poll nationwide by CNN released on Monday showed Trump with 49% of the Republican Party support with Marco Rubio the Florida senator with 16% and Ted Cruz the Texas senator with 15%.
Trump also stirred controversy again by retweeting words that have been attributed to the late Benito Mussolini the former dictator of Italy. He then infuriated more by defending his tweet by saying the tweet was a very good quote.
Gawker a website claimed the credit for creating the parody account regarding Il Duce, or the leader.
The reality TV star now politician is 69 years old and later said that it did not make any difference whose quote it was and said it does not matter whether the quote came from Mussolini or someone else.
