Donald Trump the presidential candidate from the Republican Party vowed Wednesday that he would standby his political campaign manager despite his aide being charged for battery, which has draw much criticism from rivals.
Trump, during television interviews on Wednesday, played down the whole incident involving Corey Lewandowski his 42-year-old campaign manager and a reporter. On Tuesday in Florida, he was arrested.
Trump stood by the comments he made on Tuesday night that he would abandon his pledge of support for whoever becomes the GOP presidential candidate for the general election in November.
Jupiter, Florida police charged Lewandowski for intentionally grabbing as well as bruising the arm of reporter Michelle Fields who was at the time a reporter with Breibart a conservative news agency, when she attempted to question Trump on March 8 at one of his campaign events.
Both Lewandowski and Trump initially denied that the incident had ever occurred.
Trump the real estate mogul from New York is the GOP front-runner for the nomination of his party, which is alarming many from the establishment of the party.
Opponents have been criticizing not only the proposals on his issues like immigration and trade, but the streams of many insults he has thrown at rivals and the aggressive tones during his many rallies.
Trump on Wednesday defended Lewandowski as well as going further by alleging that the reporters grabbed Trump. He said he was looking into legal action as a response.
Trump claims the reporter made the story up when talking to one network, while saying to another that Lewandowski had grabbed the woman unknowingly.
However, Fields was standing by her version of the incident. In a response to Trump’s tweet about the incident, Fields said he should stop lying.
Trump is leading his opponents Ted Cruz the U.S. senator from Texas and John Kasich the Ohio Governor in the race to reach 1,237 delegates needed to secure the GOP nomination.
Cruz on Tuesday said he would fire his campaign manager over a battery charge.
If Trump is not to win the necessary delegates prior to the convention, the party will have to impose a complicated and contentious process of formally selecting a nominee during the convention.
