Cruz would not say what the announcement was but it comes at a time when the Texas Senator is in need of delegates to gain ground on front runner Donald Trump.
He joked that Trump was picked by Hillary Clinton the Democratic front runner for her running mate.
Cruz and Trump moved on to Indiana Wednesday where Trump is looking for his knockout blow and the nomination, while Cruz is looking for a last gasp effort to just survive.
Trump will hold a rally this evening in Indiana after he delivers an address on foreign policy in Washington that his campaign hopes makes him look to be more presidential.
In Indiana, he will be joined by Bob Knight, the longtime basketball coach at the University of Indiana.
Cruz, who spent the last few days campaigning in Indiana attempting to get a jump start on Trump, moved quickly past his Tuesday humiliating defeats, is planning to campaign in the morning prior to his afternoon rally.
Looming over his race is the question of whether Mike Pence the Governor of Indiana will back Cruz, Trump or no one publicly. Last week Pence met with both candidates.
Trump says that Pence will endorse either him or no one, but he will not endorse Cruz.
Only Indiana is holding a primary for the Republicans next Tuesday. Cruz and Trump are expected to spend most of their time campaigning in the state. A Cruz loss would be catastrophic for his campaign, after being set back in a big way with Tuesday’s defeats.
John Kasich, the third remaining GOP candidate has stopped his active campaigning in Indiana, which clears the way for Cruz to square off directly with Trump.
In exchange for that, Cruz is not actively campaigning in New Mexico or Oregon. Kasich is planning to campaign Thursday in Oregon.
In Indiana, polls have shown that Cruz and Trump are in a tight battle. In a Tuesday night speech, Cruz declared to his supporters that tonight the campaign would move back to terrain that is more favorable in Indiana.
