Join Lawrence Lessig in North Carolina

June 19, 2010

By: Monica Walsh

Lawrence Lessig is coming to Raleigh next week, and you're invited to come hear him speak.

Lessig's visit -- at the invitation of the North Carolina Common Cause chapter -- is intended to raise awareness about the need for electoral reform in the wake of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. With your participation, we'll help put pressure on North Carolina's Congress members to co-sponsor the Fair Elections Now Act.

Lessig will appear at three separate events on Tuesday, June 22, and you're welcome to attend any or all of them:

Voter-Owned Elections Lobby Day Presentation

Lessig will give a presentation to lawmakers, democracy advocates, and concerned citizens about the urgent need to remove the influence of special interest money from our political system. You can learn more about Lobby Day and register to participate at http://www.ncvce.org. This event is free and open to the public.

Lunch with Common Cause

Lessig will address a diverse group from the downtown business, legal, and lobbyist communities. He will discuss why the high cost of running for office -- and the dependencies that accompany it -- is bad for businesses. A Q&A session will follow. This event is also free and open to the public.
