Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson announced his endorsement of Donald Trump Friday. He called the front running Republican presidential candidate a very intelligent man and one that cares very deeply about his country.
He said the U.S. needed to know there are two Donald Trumps.
He said one was the man dominating the headlines and the primary season for the Republican Party with brash statements.
The other, added Carson was one who is very cerebral and considers things in a very careful manner.
He is far more cerebral and reasonable that what comes across, said Carson of Trump.
The two appeared together during a news conference held at Palm Beach Mar-a-Lago Club owned by Trump.
Carson implored leaders of the GOP to coalesce around Trump as has Trump himself of recent.
Carson warned that a house divided cannot stand echoing the reference that Abraham Lincoln once used, in allusion to some leaders in the Republican Party who said they would not support Trump.
While Carson clashed with Trump and vice versa during the campaign trail, the two hold many of the same beliefs politically.
Both want to use dramatic measures in lowering the number of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. and the two each have made controversial comments about Muslims.
Carson frequently uses biblical references in his speech and is a Seventh-day Adventist. His endorsement could boost the support Trump received amongst evangelical Christian voters.
This week Ted Cruz, the Senator from Texas who is the closest competitor to Trump, won the endorsement of Carly Fiorina the former CEO at Hewlett Packard and candidate for the GOP nomination who dropped out.
Jeb Bush the former governor of Florida and onetime GOP candidate has been said to be meeting with rivals of Trump but it is not known if he would endorse anyone prior to Tuesday’s Florida primary.
Carson and Trump said they blame their friction earlier on politics, with Carson explaining that he was never offended personally.
Trump praised the retired neurosurgeon as a special person who has led a very awe-inspiring life. The two talked about education earlier this week said Trump, and he hopes Carson will be involved in the campaign and his potential presidency.
